What I Need

September 30th. Today I find myself thinking about what I think I need, and contrasting that with what I think God knows I need.

Meeting His presence. Experiencing His glory and goodness. Being with Him. Seeking Him. Trusting Him. Turning towards Him. Surrendering to Him. Worshiping Him. Delighting in Him. Desiring Him. This is all about Him!

And for me and you, this is a good, good thing. No one else has His unlimited resources, His strength, His power, His endless riches. No one else has His character, His holiness, His perfection. No one else sees the big picture and everything ahead—no one but God.

And no one else has His perfect love, seeing how He cares for us the way He does.

He knows, above all other things on this earth, that I need Him. And I never have to worry about lacking this one thing, because He is always there for me.

I’ll argue that it’s possible to be met with the deepest comfort a human can experience while in the darkest, hardest place. To be met with the fullest, most unhindered experience of the glory and goodness of God while on our knees, desperate and crying out! To experience the most powerful, overwhelming joy, even in the midst of our deepest sorrow and tragedy.

This is God! And He shows us again and again who He is and what we really need.

I think of all the ways I turn away, all the directions my heart and desires want to turn, and how I try to find satisfaction in other things. He is THE source of my true satisfaction. He is the “met!” for my needs.

God, help me today. Help me to remember You. Help my heart to dwell on You. Turn me to what really matters today, Lord.

You.

“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which had been given to us in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 NLT
