How many times have you heard this? “You’re not too much for me – you’re everything I ever wanted!”
I’m just guessing here—probably not many. And yet, this is probably something we all need to hear more often.
So where do we go when parts of us feel so big that it seems no one else can handle them? Where can we turn with all of our “too-much”-ness? And who will say “you’re not too much” to us?
For me, this answer is not ultimately found in someone else; it’s found in Jesus.
“I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety.” Psalm 16:7–9 NLT
Jesus can handle me. All of me. My brokenness. My ugly spots. My raw wounds. My thoughts. My heart completely pouring out. Every emotion I feel and experience and express—He can carry them all. And I can rest in him.
How do I know this?
He’s proved it. Again, and again. Every single time I am disappointed. Every single time I am let down. Every time I feel that I am just “too much” for even the closest person on this earth to me, He is there. Ready. Waiting – for me.
And when I turn and bring all of me to his feet—through my words, my prayers, my pen, or my tears—he catches it all, holds me, and lifts me up again.
And if I have his presence, his refuge, his comfort and security here on earth, can you imagine what eternity will be like??
“…when I awake, I will see you face to face, and be satisfied.” [from Ps 17:15]
Moving Forward
What part of you today feels like it’s just “too much?” Can you find a healthy way to express this, instead of sitting on it?
And, what can you turn over to Jesus?
Finally, how can you help someone who might feel like they are just too much today?
Can you listen a little more? Can you sit with them while they express how they feel?
You don’t need to fix it. In fact, I’d argue you can’t. But you can be there. And you can point them to the one who will carry all that they hold: Jesus.

Oh Jesus,
I am not too much for you. You know every part of me, and still call me to you! You tell me I am loved. I know this isn’t just sentimental. You know me intimately, and still each day, you call me towards you, beckoning me to come, with all my baggage, and to lay it all at your feet!!
Oh, how my heart rests in you, my Lord! How good and satisfying it is to meet your presence each morning.
Jesus, you are so good to me. I love you.
