Mending

We see each other
but don’t smile.
We cross paths
but don’t say hi.
What was is gone.
Friends and lovers,
replaced by strangers,
at best.

It’s hard to stare back
at the marks of
paths that crossed
for quite some time.
Stories that intertwined
and then pulled apart,
ripped and unraveled,
but still forever marked
with the imprints of
the connecting.

How do you mend
what has been severed?
And how do you look
ahead,
without remembering what
has been?

Divorce is no fun friend.
It plays tricks on the mind.
And leaves its sad imprint
deep in the soul.

And so now we
see each other,
and don’t smile.
We walk by
but don’t catch eyes.
What was is gone,
and yet ahead
is good.

How God mends
is a mystery and
a surprise.
